1. Watch the Discovery Education video called “Religions of the World: Buddhism”. (28:10) Students should list 3-4 facts (5 words or more per fact) about each topic from WS as the video plays. (Green Block is exempted from this.)
2. Then, read Discovery Ed. 7.4, p. 6. Students create a 5Ws list on the back of their WS: WHO spread Buddhism? WHAT was this spread called? WHEN was Buddhism brought to China? WHERE did Buddhism come from? WHY did Buddhism spread so easily?

1. Watch Youtube Video called “Chinese Dynasties- a reading lesson for kids”. Fill in your WS. Then do the Dynasties Poster below.

- Students have out blank sheet of paper labeled “The Great Wall of China”.
- Watch video on Discovery Ed called “Behind the Great Wall” (6:28). Students write 5 facts (5 words or more per fact).

The Early Humans Test will be taken on Thursday, October 27 as the first grade for Quarter 2 in order to allow time for a retake. The Early Humans Notebook Check will also be on Thursday, October 27, but it will go on Quarter 1 as it is an Informal Grade with no retakes; please ask your student about the Table of Contents to prepare for the Notebook Check.

10/17 Horrible Histories: Savage Stone Age Video Notes- If you were absent, you do not have to fill out the video notes, but you do need to get the WS as it is item 8 in your binder (see me upon your return). Also, each student (absent, too) should answer this on another sheet of notebook paper: Do you think life as a Neanderthal was easy or hard? Would you be able to love like the Neanderthals? Why or why not? Use 10-15 sentences to answer and provide 3 reasons from the video to support your answer; if you were absent use 3 things from our unit to support your answer.
10/14 Benchmark 1 was today. Your student received his/her grade immediately and was also told to review answers. The retake for yesterday's Open Note Quiz and today's Benchmark can be found in the Documents Tab. Both are due Fri. 10/28. Students can earn up to an 80% for completing this retake.
Open Note Quiz on chapter 1 Thursday, Oct. 13. Make sure items 2-4 in your Current Unit section are complete and correct; be ready to use those notes and apply them to questions about Early Humans. I will return item 4 on Mon. 10/10 (Ch. 1 Notes Answer Key).
Benchmark 1 is Friday, Oct.14- will cover all of Geography Unit and what we have done so far in Early Humans Unit (current unit in binder); students should review Warm-Ups, Current Unit, and Geography Test on SchoolNet.

10/11 Chapter 2 Early Hominids Reading- Use to fill in the Ch. 2 Early Hominids WS. Don't forget to add the definition of anthropologist to your Vocabulary Page!
10/10 Complete the create your own cave art on a half sheet of brown/orange construction paper (make sure you crumple it first so it resembles a cave!). Use the petroglyphs to tell your story.
10/7 You Be The Archaeologist!
- You get a call from the governor of city in Africa. He says a cave has been discovered, and your team needs to come analyze the artwork to draw conclusions about the cave and the area surrounding it.
- Go to Ms. Hooker’s website and click on the correct Cave number to complete your analysis on the front of the WS (Exploring Cave Art).
- As soon as you finish your cave analysis, you get a call from another archaeology team who is in France exploring the Lascaux Cave. They need your team’s help. Before you go, your team does some research on this cave so you can be better prepared.
- On Ms. Hooker’s weebly open the Lascaux Cave Reading and answer the questions on the back of the WS (Lascaux Cave Reading Questions).
- Finally, you get on the plane to France and arrive at the Lascaux Cave. As you take your virtual tour, you and your team jot down 5 thoughts about the cave. Remember, you are archaeologists, so use the terms/ideas we have learned this week!
- On Ms. Hooker’s weebly open the Lascaux Tour link. Have some fun clicking around, but don’t forget to jot down your 5 thoughts on notebook paper and staple to your WS.

9/26 Identifying Push and Pull Factors- Using the website factmonster.com/countries.html , fill out this WS and make decisions about countries being push or pull countries (ones that you would move away from or move to).
9/19 5 Themes of Geography Brochure- Students should use the country assigned to them in class (or pick one from the list if you were absent). This is due Thursday 9/22 (we will not work on it on Thursday). This is an in class and at home project; it is all we will do Mon.-Wed.
Students should also be prepared for a Map Skills and Themes Quiz on Thursday 9/22 (changed from Wed. 9/21). The quiz will cover the 5 Themes of Geography (notes from 9/16), labeling the continents/oceans (WS from 9/14), and using the following: map scale, map key/legend, cardinal/intermediate directions and latitude/longitude (all in our current unit section and/or warm-ups).
9/16 Take notes from the Five Themes of Geography PPT. Also, over the next few days check and correct your Map Skills using the Answer Key (Green Block will get theirs back on Monday and still have plenty of review time). Draw and label (with the item name and page number) at least 4 colorful pictures related to geography (use Green Textbook in class and/or look up information on the internet at home).
Cover the entire paper with color and pictures (no white space).
Be neat, thoughtful, and creative.
